Gingery Pork Rice Porridge


It’s that time of the year when the days are short and the nights are long, and the temperatures drop to a level where illness seems to follow. It’s no wonder we’ve had our fair share of the sneezing and coughing! So when it’s cold outside and the sick person needs to eat, a gingery pork rice porridge is a comforting bowl of warm food that makes everything slightly better for a while. Besides, we’re sure ginger has some kind of healing property…

Porridge can be done with either oats or rice, but we’re recommending using rice for this one!

Gingery Pork Rice PorridgeServes 2

  • 0.5 mug rice
  • 3 mugs water
  • 125g pork loin, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, coarsely grated
  • 1 handful shredded cabbage
  • 1 thin slice ginger, finely minced
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 pinch white pepper powder
  • 1 pinch salt


Wash the rice in a pot and drain well. Then add the mugs of water and bring to the boil.


While the rice is cooking, prepare the other ingredients: pork, carrot, cabbage, ginger, garlic, etc.


Add the prepared ingredients into the rice pot to cook, and season with soy sauce, sesame oil, salt and pepper. Stir to mix well and simmer for about ten minutes, before serving hot.
